This month there is where we start seeing summery readathons! The first I am participating in is the Summerathon.
The readathon was created by Amy from acourtofcrownsandquills, and she is also hosting along with Heather from Bookables, Melanie from meltotheany, Aimee from Aimee Reads and Jen from Pinot and Pages. The readathon is running from 21st – 27th June! There are 6 prompts; five reading and one freebie. There is no set amount of books you need to read, just read what you can and complete as many/little prompts as you want, and you can also double-up/triple-up on prompts or bend them to fit your TBR! There is also a Twitter account for the readathon found here along with their Instagram page linked here to follow all the updates and join in with discussions! Below are the various reading prompts along with my TBR.
1: Read a ‘beachy’ read
2: Read a book with sunrise colours on the cover
3: Read a book featuring a road trip/travelling or summer holiday
4: Read a book set in summer
5: Read a book with food on the cover
6: Drink your favourite summery drink while reading
FYI. It feels nothing like summer in the UK right now; it’s been grey and cloudy, the weather’s either raining or windy or both, I haven’t seen the sun in what feels like an age, and the temperature hasn’t risen above 16C in two weeks… But hopefully reading some summery books is going to help me believe that I’m actually on a beach in Hawaii or something.
I originally only had two books in my TBR, but because I hadn’t done Romanceathon as originally planned, I added a few books from my June TBR to fit more prompts, below are the books I’m planning to read with the prompts!
Love & Gelato – Jenna Evans Welch
YOUNG ADULT, FICTION, CONTEMPORARY, ROMANCE, TRAVELLING, ITALY, FAMILY SECRETS
Challenges: Read a ‘beachy’ read, set in Summer, food on the cover, a book ft. travelling
Pages: 352 (paperback)
If I’m Being Honest – Emily Wibberley & Austin Siegemund-Broka
YOUNG ADULT, FICTION, CONTEMPORARY, ROMANCE, RETELLING, SHAKESPEARE
Challenges: Sunrise colours on the cover, a ‘beachy’ read
Pages: 362 (hardcover)
With The Fire on High – Elizabeth Acevedo
YOUNG ADULT, FICTION, CONTEMPORARY, REALISTIC FICTION, COMING-OF-AGE, CULINARY, DIVERSITY, OWN VOICES, POC REPRESENTATION
Challenges: Food on the cover, sunrise colours on the cover
Pages: 400 (hardcover)
Girls on the Verge – Sharon Biggs Waller
YOUNG ADULT, FICTION, CONTEMPORARY, REALISTIC FICTION, FEMINISM, SOCIAL ISSUES, HARD-HITTING, TRIGGER WARNINGS
Challenges: Book ft. a road trip/travelling/summer holiday, set in Summer
Pages: 240 (hardcover)
So those are the books I’m planning to read to fulfil Summerathon 2019! If my calculations are correct, I’ll need to read on average 194 pages a day to finish these books. But I feel like I haven’t had an opportunity to read much this month so I’m itching to find some reading time amongst work!
So are any of you also participating? If so, what are you planning to read? If you’ve read any of these, what did you think of them? And how are your reading plans going for June? I’d love to know!
THANKS FOR READING!!
