Top 5 Wednesday

T5W – Top Books of 2017!

“– I know most people have a longer list than this, or post theirs at different times (like I’ll be waiting until January for example) but if you want to make a list of your absolute faves of the year, now is the time!”

Top 5 Wednesday (T5W) is a Goodreads group consisting of weekly ‘Top 5’s created by Booktuber Sam from “thoughtsontomes”. If you would like to explore the group more further, there’s a link right here to take you to the main page!

This is one of the hardest I have done; I have read so many fantastic books this year that I cannot narrow it down to 5! There will be further posts regarding my favourite books of 2017, but in the sake of T5W I have chosen the top 5 which come to mind first when I think about the past year!

5/ ACOTAR series – Sarah J. MaasACOTAR Cover Reveal - Throne of Glass

At first I tried avoiding this series because there was so much buzz over the second book! Many have said the first book was ‘meh’, but I was blown away and thoroughly enjoyed it. I loved the Beauty and the Beast inspired moments, I thought Feyre was a lot like Katniss of which I loved, and the writing was so easy to read and flowed beautifully. I devoured the series straight away, pre-ordered ACOWAR and read it in a week. Couldn’t fault it at the time, despite hearing problematic things, and I still madly love the entire series.

262368984/ More Happy Than Not – Adam Silvera

My first taste of Adam Silvera and it was delicious! The futuristic element was very clever and the main characters felt so real and they were incredibly likeable, my heart was aching at the end for so many reasons. I can see why Silvera is so popular and he deserves all the hype he’s getting!

3/ The State of Grace – Rachael Lucas5e3a4-9781509839551

This book was like reading about my teen life. Even though the character had aspergers, I could very much relate to her in regards to general and social anxiety. It amazed how this book just ‘gets it’ and explained the majority of my own thoughts as a teenager! I so easily liked Grace and sympathised with her. I could never grow tired of this story.

1230c-illuminae-kaufman-kristoff2/ Illuminae – Amie Kaufman & Jay Kristoff

This really amazed me, as I wasn’t madly interested in Sci-Fi. This book series has changed my mind! I loved the story and the characters, it flowed well and the different forms of text I had lots of fun with. I was gripped from the beginning and sped through the book, even though it’s not the smallest of books!

1/ A Darker Shade of Magic – V. E. Schwab23403402

Everything about this book I just LOVED. Easily going to be in my top reads of the year (that is, unless the next books somehow top it!). The characters were so likeable and complex, the magic system was ingenious and innovative, and the plot just sucked me in! I was scared I had my expectations too high before going into this, but that was never a problem, if anything they were blown out of the water. V.E. Schwab has swiftly become an auto-buy author.

So if I had to choose only five books out of the year, these would be them! Are any of these your favourites too? Which books were your best of the year? Any new recommendations? I’d love to know!
