T5W – Authors I’d Want to Write Like!

“In honor of NaNo wrapping up, discuss some authors you’d like to write like. Whether its their writing style, what genre they write in, or how many books they manage to churn out a year!”

Top 5 Wednesday (T5W) is a Goodreads group consisting of weekly ‘Top 5’s created by Booktuber Sam from “thoughtsontomes”. If you would like to explore the group more further, there’s a link right here to take you to the main page!

I am interested in writing, but it’s not something I’m looking to do in the future, unless I get an amazing idea for a story! And also because there are so many authors I adore, and must admit that I might never be able to write like they do. They are the ones I would one day wish to aspire to be like.

5/ Sarah J. Maas

This lovely lady come onto this list because of how addicting her writing is! I don’t think I can remember another book series which I devoured in as quick a time as the ACOTAR series! I was invested in the characters and she wrote the story so elegantly, it was so easy to read! I got hooked from the first page, and then read each of the books back to back. As that is very rare for me to do, that’s a good sign that I love her writing!

4/ Adam Silvera

He just knows how to write about feelings, and how to make reader’s fully commit emotionally to his characters! He is able to write very raw, genuine, and complex characters. Whilst reading his books, I personally felt for each character as if they were a close, personal friend. That in my eyes takes immense skill and talent!

3/ Neil Gaiman

I just love his quirkiness and the magical stories that he creates. I find them so immersive and entertaining, I can honestly read his work over and over again and never get bored, and that is a sign of a good writer!

2/ J.K. Rowling

Mainly because of the incredible world (or more appropriately put, ‘universe’) is a one of a kind! Nothing I think can ever come close to the Harry Potter series in terms of it’s uniqueness and versatility. I haven’t read any of her other works so I cannot say much about her writing ability outside of Harry Potter, but I think it is safe to say that this world was meant to be written by J.K. Rowling!

1/ V.E. Schwab

She is just talented at writing full stop. Her characters are amazing, her descriptions are atmospheric, her magic systems are unique, and her plots are enticing! I’m slowly making my way through her Shades of Magic series, because I dread the day I finish that series and say goodbye to the incredible characters and the world! I know she cannot be everyone’s ‘cup of tea’, but she is one of the most talented writers out there in my opinion!

So those are my top five! Let me know yours! Any authors missing from my list you’d recommend? And do you agree/disagree with my choices? I’d love to know!

THANKS FOR READING!!
