“Characters you swooned over when you were younger. This was a topic from our suggestion board :)”
Top 5 Wednesday (T5W) is a Goodreads group consisting of weekly ‘Top 5’s created by Booktuber Sam from “thoughtsontomes”. If you would like to explore the group more further, there’s a link right here to take you to the main page!
Aaaah, those nostalgic book crushes/boyfriends that we look back at. The best boyfriends are found in books to be honest! These are probably my strongest ‘crushes’ on book characters, some of them still stand to this day, and many are enhanced with their cast member in the TV/movie adaptions.
5/ Jacob from The Twilight Series – Stephanie Meyer
Cringiest of the cringe! I think either Jacob/Edward would appear on most lists for this week. You cannot simply talk about nostalgic book boyfriends and not mention this series!
4/ Robbie from Angus, Thongs, and Full-Frontal Snogging – Louise Rennison
This goes back many moons! I read this well over ten years ago so is most likely my first ever book boyfriend/crush. Talk about nostalgic! Robbie was beautiful and was the typical cute boy that all of your friends fancied and everyone wanted to be. Again, the movie adaptation cast his character perfectly with Aaron Johnson .
3/ Damon Salvatore from The Vampire Diaries series – L.J. Smith
Thus began my ‘bad-boy’ phase. I remember reading the book series ages ago and also watching the TV show. I was always on Team Damon, I felt that his character had so much more depth and there is always a deep story as to why bad boys go bad, and isn’t that half the enjoyment of reading these characters? I wanted Damon all to myself and Elena did not deserve him; I’m not bitter at all…
2/ Augustus Waters from The Fault in Our Stars – John Green
This technically didn’t that nostalgic because I read the book about 4/5 years ago, but it still feels that way seeing as my reading tastes had still changed in those years. Augustus felt like the perfect boyfriend, and it was near impossible to not fall in love with him! ‘Why couldn’t all guys be like Augustus?’, my younger self exclaimed.
1/ Finnick Odair from The Hunger Games trilogy – Suzanne Collins
I remember when everyone was reading the trilogy and were debating Team-Peeta or Team Gale, and I wasn’t particularly fans of either of them? My heart went straight to Finnick from the moment he was introduced (love at first read?) and I just kept swooning over him and loved every scene he was in. The movie version of Finnick is also very easy on the eyes!
So those are my top 5 ‘nostalgic’ book boyfriends, I’d love to know which were yours!
THANKS FOR READING!!
