Sbooktacular Readathon 2017 TBR!

This readathon was created and will be hosted by Jasmine from the channel Novel Thoughts. Find her channel here, the announcement video HERE, and the more detailed blog post/instructions for the readathon hereeee! The readathon runs for the last week of October (24th-31st) right up to Halloween!

When I first saw the map for the challenges, it did look quite daunting! But I think I’ve got a solid TBR set up. I followed the path to the witch, and below are my picks for each of the challenges/sign posts! Again, it was so fun organising the TBR and I’m hoping to stick to it; I’ve chosen loads of shorter books in order to complete the challenges without dying!

1/ Read a book of your choicead02c-thegraveyardbook

This was an easy one; I originally planned to read this for Spookathon, however I got wrapped up in other books and could only get halfway through. That’s The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman!  This will be a re-read, but because it’s been so long, I’m reading it like it’s fresh.

122962/ Future/Past

For this I chose a book for the past, and that was The Scarlett Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne. I wanted to read this for the longest time, and I’m wanting to read something different to a futuristic setting. This is set far in the past, so it’ll be interesting to see how social norms have changed.

3/ Non-Human/MagicFrankenstein Mary Shelley: Books | eBay

I chose the path towards non-magic, and for that I plan to read Frankenstein by Mary Shelley. It’s been years since I read this so I don’t remember much of the story except the basics. I’m looking forward to getting into this!

Read the Rainbow: Red4/ Red spine/Orange on the cover

As I chose the ‘non-human’ path, I had to choose a book with a red spine, and I chose this beautiful edition of Wizard of Oz! It’s so beautiful and I had been putting off reading it, and now I have an excuse! I’ll be interested to see how the original story differs from the infamous movie adaptation!

5/ Read a book after sunsetPre-order A House at the Bottom of a Lake by Josh Malerman ...

I just had to choose a really short, quick read for this, and I heard good things for A House at the Bottom of a Lake by Josh Malerman. It’s less than 200 pages so should easily read this after sunset in one evening!

Annihilation by Jeff VanderMeer – Book Review – The ...6/ Read a book containing ‘dark’ in the title/ First book in a series

I went for a first book in a series, as I’ve wanted to try this series for a long time! And that’s Annihilation by Jeff Vandermeer. I heard Jade from Jadeyraereads speak so highly for this series so I decided to give it a try!

7/ Gothic novel/Fantasy novelAlfa img - Showing > Shadow and Bone Trilogy

From the previous challenge, I had to read a fantasy book which I never have any problem over! I chose Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo, and as many books on this list I have been meaning to read this for a very long time! This could fit for both this and the previous challenge so I can still complete the challenges if I don’t want to read Annihilation.

This is quite the ambitious TBR! But these are relatively short books so I shouldn’t struggle too much and I can’t wait to dive straight back into another readathon! Are you guys participating, if so, which books are you hoping to get to? Are you as excited as I am?! I’d love to know!

Abbie xxxx
